Ms. Christine Termini Passarella meeting saxophonist Ravi Coltrane at Birdland NYC. Ravi was proud of The Kids for Coltrane. We raised $1,500 for the non profit group Friends of the Coltrane Home…please check out their site and mission. The Kids for Coltrane dream of the day that John’s Long Island home is transformed into a learning museum!

First prize winner Maya with her little sister holding a letter of support from the Clinton Foundation and the book Giving. President Clinton donated an autographed copy of his book and dedicated it to Maya. She was thrilled to receive it, and be part of this philanthropic effort!! An extra special thank you goes out to saxophone player and former President of the United States of America William Jefferson Clinton.

I attended Harvard’s Project Zero 2006 Summer Institute. The institute was led by Dr. Howard Gardner, Dr. David Perkins and Dr. Steve Seidel. This experience changed my life. I highly recommend this professional development to all educators searching for transformative learning. I plan on going back this summer to attend the Future of Learning Institute…I can’t wait!

I attended the Art of Leadership Summer Institute at Harvard University. It was a very enlightening experience. Look for me in the front row second on the right.

George Lucas describing his vision of what education should look like. I agree with every word!
“Mr. Lucas your words here are right on…I recently finished a two year project with a looped class. We went from first to second grade communicating through music. Over time we worked with the music of the brilliant John Coltrane. Reporter Corey Kilgannon from the New York Times asked me how I had the courage to teach through Coltrane. I told him that children welcome what is complicated and then take it apart. They heard Coltrane and all the other musicians communicating their thoughts and feelings through the different genres of music. We worked on a similar project using the visual arts in what is called Artful Thinking. There will be an article in the Wall Street Journal about my work by Nat Hentoff using jazz to educate children. It is all about communication, and creating the connections needed to help human beings follow their bliss. Joseph Campbell would be very proud of your work here. Congratulations!
